Freshers weeks should be remembered for the right reasons. Spiking, in any form, is dangerous, unacceptable and could lead to serious criminal consequences. Confirmed cases of spiking are rare in Devon and Cornwall, but if you’re out and about for the first time and think you have been spiked, tell a trusted friend or a member of staff immediately. If you’re in immediate danger call 999. Report it to the police once you are safe. Spiking in any form is a criminal offence; there are serious consequences for anyone who does it. Harming someone by spiking them could lead to a jail sentence between 10 years and life. Remember this: putting extra alcohol into someone's drink without them knowing, even if you know them and think it’s for fun, is still spiking, and can be very dangerous. It will be treated by the police with the same severity as any other sort of spiking. Don’t be that person.
